Groundcovers are a valuable addition to any garden, providing a beautiful and low-maintenance way to fill in bare spaces, suppress weeds, and prevent erosion. But with so many different groundcovers to choose from, it can be tough to know where to start.

That's why I'm here to help! I'll be highlighting three of my favorite groundcovers: Dichondra repens, Myoporum parvifolium, and Grevillea Royal Mantle. Each of these plants has something unique to offer, so I'm sure you'll find one that's perfect for your needs.

Dichondra repens

Dichondra repens, also known as kidney weed, is a fast-growing groundcover that forms a dense mat of small, kidney-shaped leaves. It's perfect for use in shady areas, as it doesn't tolerate full sun. Dichondra repens is also tolerant of light foot traffic, making it a good choice for pathways and stepping stones.

Myoporum parvifolium

Myoporum parvifolium, also known as creeping boobialla, is a native Australian groundcover that produces clusters of small, white flowers in spring and summer. It's a tough and adaptable plant that can tolerate a wide range of conditions, including full sun, drought, and poor soil. Myoporum parvifolium is also a good choice for attracting pollinators to your garden.

Grevillea Royal Mantle

Grevillea Royal Mantle is a stunning groundcover with attractive burgundy foliage and red toothbrush flowers that appear in winter and spring. It's a fast-growing plant that can quickly cover large areas, making it a great choice for slopes and embankments. Grevillea Royal Mantle is also drought-tolerant and attracts native bees and birds.

Which groundcover is right for you?

The best groundcover for you will depend on your specific needs and preferences. But I hope this blog post has given you a good starting point for your search. With so many great options to choose from, you're sure to find the perfect groundcover to transform your garden!

Here are a few additional things to consider when choosing a groundcover:

  • Sun exposure: How much sun does the area receive?

  • Soil type: What type of soil do you have?

  • Moisture requirements: How much water does the plant need?

  • Foot traffic: Will the plant be walked on?

  • Maintenance: How much time are you willing to spend caring for the plant?

With a little planning, you can choose a groundcover that will thrive in your garden and provide you with years of enjoyment.
